Best run firm in the industry

5.0 of 5 stars

September 2018 | FORMER EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Unparalleled industry knowledge in Retail
Best talent at the entry level
Great back end support, e.g. research, finance, HR, KT
PTO process creates accountability at the team level

Downers

Go to market process can be a little too top down and structured
Firm makes choices about what line of business to prioritize - growth almost always wins out, over operations (which was my area of expertise)
Office based P&L's are no longer a relevant construct for global consulting businesses

Advice to Candidates

If you're a Principal or Partner level candidate, ask how the office you're joining relates to the practice area/topic area you specialize in - this will make or break your career at BCG

If you're joining the Expert Track (ECT), understand the firm's expectations for your utilization

Uppers

The inclusive and engaging community and culture

Downers

The "growth" model leverages the deep insecurities of Type A people to make them consistently feel inadequate

Advice to Candidates

Many firms oversell themselves during the recruiting process. They act like close knit communities and then end up being factious. BCG undersells itself and more than delivers on the commitment it makes to employees

At promotion 2 years in after undergrad, you actually become a consultant (i.e. MBA salary). Not sure if that is the case across the board at MBB
