teamwork

Downers

stress

TCG's willingness to give junior members huge responsibilities makes it the perfect place to launch your career.

4.9 of 5 stars

Midlevel in Strategy | Chicago, IL | 2018 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

TCG has a very flexible merit based culture that will let you shape your career however you want -- you can work hard and advance quickly or prioritize work life balance and take things slower

Downers

The small size of our firm makes it difficult to absorb waves of high/low demand. It feels like we bounce between a spectrum of always being significantly over or under staffed

Great compensation package, engaging project opportunities, and a sustainable lifestyle

Organizational red tape as part of being owned by Nielsen

4.3 of 5 stars

Experienced in Strategy | Chicago, IL | 2018 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Work/life balance. Incredible clients - fun business problems.

Downers

Lack of breadth in terms of our capabilities/offerings.

Advice to Candidates

We're an incredible firm if you are interested in growth strategy for consumer goods/retail and interested in living in Chicago.

If you're much more interested in different functions/industries and/or want to live in a different city, another consulting firm would probably be a better fit for you.

Constant opportunities to step up to new challenges

The people are and always have been amazing

Downers

It's still consulting with all the volatility that goes with the territory

Advice to Candidates

Spend time with as many people at a firm as you can -- that's how you get a sense of culture

The culture. People are extremely friendly. Every consulting firm claims a flat structure, but at TCG we live that, even outside of work.

Downers

Smaller size can make you feel a little vulnerable in the market, but we seem to be doing fine.

Advice to Candidates

I would choose this place all over again. If you want a place where your coworkers become your friends regardless of experience, while still putting out great work, this is the place to be.

True to expectations: A sustainable career in strategy consulting

Work/life balance in terms of consulting firms

Downers

I'll likely have to work harder at exit opportunities than had I gone to a larger firm

Advice to Candidates

Think about your long-term aspirations. Are you planning to have an additional line on your resume and then leave after a few years, or are you looking to make a career at the firm?

Lots of ups and downs but strong potential, we'll see what happens
