Students learned finance, strategy, operations, and marketing through case studies largely designed to prepare them for careers in consulting, banking, and corporate leadership. So, what does this mean for MBA candidates, and what will the MBA look like in the next decade?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The Traditional MBA Model Is Under Pressure&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Historically, business schools optimized their programs around two outcomes: rankings and salary placement. In practical terms, that means the traditional “shareholder-value-first” curriculum model is starting to look outdated.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Nowadays, employers want graduates who can navigate uncertainty, manage digital transformation, and lead cross-functional teams in environments shaped by automation and AI. In other words, it’s no longer as simple as being able to interpret financial statements.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;AI Is the Biggest Driver of Change in MBA Education&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;To the surprise of no one, AI is having a major impact on the future of MBA education. Future MBA graduates are now expected to understand how automation affects strategy, how to deploy AI responsibly, and how AI can be used in decision making.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;AI Literacy as a Core Leadership Skill&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Building off what we just said about AI literacy, it’s important that MBA candidates understand that modern employers are no longer treating AI as a curiosity, nor are they viewing technology as a niche specialization. The bottom line is, AI literacy should be a part of every graduate’s toolkit.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Take the consulting industry for example—many consulting firms are already integrating AI into their everyday operations, and now expect junior employees to use AI tools to accelerate research and analysis. Meanwhile, financial institutions are applying automation across various aspects of their operations including risk modeling and compliance.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Will Business Schools Have to Compete With AI?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Something that is perhaps often overlooked is that AI tools themselves are becoming learning environments. Professionals today can use generative AI systems to simulate strategy scenarios, analyze industries, summarize research (quickly), and even accelerate technical learning.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Now, this doesn’t replace the MBA experience, but it might change what students and employers expect from it in the near future. If knowledge becomes easier to access independently, business schools must shift their focus toward judgment, leadership, and applied decision making rather than information delivery alone.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Teaching MBA Students to Manage AI&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Future managers will need to supervise teams where some “team members” are actually &lt;a rel=&quot;noopener noreferrer&quot; href=&quot;/blogs/innovate-with-influence-global-high-tech/agentic-ai-101-what-it-is-and-why-professional-services-firms-are-paying-attention&quot; target=&quot;_blank&quot;&gt;agentic AI&lt;/a&gt;. These topics are already appearing across professional services, with many consulting firms handling digital transformation for clients.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The Future of MBA Candidates&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Of course, the MBA still matters, but we must consider that management education is entering a transition period shaped largely by AI.
