How to Tell if an Employer Values DE&I

Many companies are implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) practices in their day-to-day operations. From employee resource groups (ERGs) to community engagement, employers are working to build a diverse workforce while providing support for their local communities-but how can you tell if a company really values DE&I practices? At this year’s Diversity & Inclusion in Internships Virtual Career Fair, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion that will shed light on the subject.

The panel will give students the tools they need to examine a company’s DE&I practices, and to determine whether a company truly embraces and values diverse candidates and voices, and provides the necessary support for its diverse workforce to grow and thrive. Additionally, the panel will help students to recognize any potential red flags that might indicate an employer isn’t as receptive to DE&I as it claims to be, greatly improving the hiring and research process.

Dos & Don’ts on Your Internship Search

This panel discussion will engage a number of topics, including the application process, interview process, and internship research and decision-making process. Students will learn the best practices for creating effective resumes and cover letters, how to use LinkedIn to their advantage, and the most common mistakes students make during the application process, along with solutions.

Additionally, the panel will show students how to research internships and make the right decision so they can find a program that meets their unique needs, while providing them with the opportunity to learn valuable lessons that will help them in their careers. Students will also learn how to be effective during the interview process, including how to be an appealing candidate, and how to answer an employer’s questions.
