Stand Up For Teachers Tomorrow on Pink Friday
Published: Mar 12, 2009
From Latest Layoff News, via SFist, we've learned about an event happening tomorrow called "Pink Friday." No, it is not a celebration of the beautiful work being done over here at Pink Slipped HQ, but it is definitely for a noteworthy cause. Pink Friday is "a day of action to protest mass layoffs and drastic cuts to public education" being organized by the California Teachers Association in response to the firings of more than 26,000 California educators. Tomorrow, March 13, is the deadline for school districts to issue preliminary pink slips to California's teachers.
Unfortunately, we can't make it to the protest, but we'll be wearing our pink here in NYC tomorrow in the Pink Friday spirit. If you are in fact on the Left Coast, the organizers of Pink Friday are asking that you do the same. Besides wearing pink to show your support for teachers and public schools, you're encouraged to organize an event or contact your Legislator and let them know the importance of investing in public education.
