TwitterJobSearch streamlines your... Twitter job search
Published: Mar 19, 2009
Yesterday we introduced CAREEREALISM's Twitter Advice Project as a sensation amongst the sea of questionable "Social Media as a Job Search Tool" materials that are currently all the rage among careerists. As we continue to try to separate the wheat from the chaff, allow me to direct you to TwitterJobSearch, a tool that aims to go beyond simply searching for keywords to help you find jobs on Twitter.
The site is brought to you by the UK-based job search engine Workhound and is different from other social media search engines because, according to its "About" page, "Until now, search engines for social media sites merely looked for words. We're looking at context." The site aims to use semantic tools and user information to try and detect who is posting, what they have posted before, and what they hope to gain from their post.
TwitterJobSearch makes the "Quality Over Quantity" list because it goes beyond simply returning all results for "job," "job search," "layoff," etc. When you enter a search term, TwitterJobSearch returns all job-related Tweets with their accompanying job posting links. So instead of getting thousands of results of people saying things like "Anyone else looking for a PR job in Austin?!?!" you get a list of tweets with links directly to open job postings. The results are ranked by both relevance and date, once again emphasizing quality over quantity. If you're seriously trying to use Twitter in your job search, the aptly named TwitterJobSearch seems like the best place to start. According to the site, over 30,000 new jobs have been tweeted in the last 7 days, so you have to like that if you've had no luck in your search thus far.
