The web site of legal writing maven Bryan Garner, (“the persnickety stylist for a linguistically challenged profession”) has a video archiveof interviews with judges and others on the art of writing. Episodes include Chief Justice Roberts on “Balancing Quality and Cost,” Justice Ginsburg on “Plain English,” and Justice Scalia on “The Writing Process.” Other interviewees include professors, practicing lawyers, and politicians. It is a singular resource for young lawyers and law students.
Incongruously, there is also a brief clip of a grumpy-seeming David Foster Wallace On Using ‘Prior To.’
I suspect this (maybe my favorite magazine piece ever) accounts for the DFW-Garner connection.
Obit round-up here.
