Starting Your Own Firm: Preliminary Questions
Published: Mar 20, 2009
At some point, most lawyers at least daydream about going solo. These days, economic conditions are prompting (or forcing) an increasing number of attorneys leap.
Jeremy Saland, a man who knows all about hanging out his own shingle, today debuts his "Starting Your Own Firm" series on Vault.com. According to Saland, the would-be solo needs to answer some basic questions upfront:
"How will I generate clients? What type of office should I have? What will my expenses be and how will I cover them? What particular area of law should I focus in or should I be a generalist? Make no mistake, starting your own law firm – and succeeding – will be an arduous and hair raising (or hair losing) task."
