&lt;p&gt;Cameron Stracher, former Covington associate, author of the excellent &lt;i&gt;&lt;i&gt;Double Billing&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/i&gt; (the &lt;i&gt;One L&lt;/i&gt; of BigLaw) and a now a professor at New York Law School, has a piece (&amp;#8220;There Will Be Blood&amp;#8221;) in today&amp;#8217;s &lt;i&gt;American Lawyer&lt;/i&gt; (free sub req&amp;#8217;d) about what job-seeking law students ought to do during our current, er, &amp;#8220;soft demand environment.&amp;#8221;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;But first Stracher tries to scare the hell out of his already anxious readers by loading his opening paragraphs with a Treehouse of Horror&amp;#8217;s worth of lurid imagery: &lt;span&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;There are &amp;#8220;bodies piling up,&amp;#8221; &amp;#8220;firing sprees,&amp;#8221; and &amp;#8220;blood baths&amp;#8221;; hopeful job hunters learn that &amp;#8220;the knives are out, and your neck is ripe for slicing&amp;#8221; and are helpfully informed that their situation is akin to &amp;#8220;a herring caught in a blender.&amp;#8221;&lt;span&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;Happy Halloween, I guess. &lt;span&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;For those readers who manage to keep reading, Stracher does offer up some hope and (cold-ish) comfort. (&amp;#8220;Although the market may be bad, it&#39;s never as bad as they say.
