About the Company
The Canadian Bank of Commerce was founded by William McMaster in 1867, while The Imperial Bank of Canada was founded in 1875. Both banks saw their own individual success after various acquisitions and expansions, and in 1961, the two banks merged to become the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce—which became widely known as CIBC.
