About the Company
Beyond Meat was founded in 2009 by former clean energy executive Ethan Brown. Brown believed in a revolutionary product, a vegan meat substitute that actually resembles real meat. In the company’s early days, there were many doubts regarding whether or not the idea, let alone the company itself, would gain the traction it needed to succeed. In 2013, Brown had a meeting with none other than Bill Gates. Gates ended up investing an undisclosed amount into the promising young company. An avalanche ensued. Twitter co-founder Biz Stone and Leonardo DiCaprio were other big-name investors. Since then, the company has been highly successful, with share value rising 163% in 2019 and sales growing 69% in just one quarter of 2020.
