A&O Shearman has arrived. The future is here.
A&O Shearman is the result of combining two of the world's most prestigious law firms into a single industry-leading firm, preeminent in all legal markets throughout the globe. Our 4,000 lawyers collaborate across 47 offices in 29 countries on six continents.
Our global reach, diversity of practice groups and people, caliber of clients, commitment to innovation, and uniquely people-centered culture afford our summer associates opportunities not available at any other firm.
We are high-performing, and also friendly, collaborative, and inclusive. We trust and respect each other. We expect the best of each other and we nurture an environment and ways of working that promote positive wellbeing. We can be ourselves and be our best. We aim high, embrace challenges, and we deliver quality.
In bringing together two strong legacies, A&O Shearman will continue to champion a diverse and inclusive culture where uniqueness is valued and is integral to our business. It is central to the kind of firm we want to be.

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION:
A&O Shearman comprises a huge range of characteristics, backgrounds, perspectives, and generations. Where in relation to gender, race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, neurodiversity, or socio-economic background, we embrace diversity and the intersections between diverse characteristics, while addressing historic representation.
Summer associates have the opportunity to participate in our employee networking, focusing on LGBTQ+ employees, women in business, caregivers, people with disabilities, different races and ethnicities, and social mobility groups. These networks build relationships and also help educate the firm about different groups.
We host global events and communication series that encourage inclusivity, and our international offices often collaborate on events like Pride, for example.
We provide training, education, and resources, including programs for women at different career stages and for people from different racial/ethnic minorities, to explore and address career challenges.
PRO BONO:
Summer associates and junior associates play a critical role in the firm’s commitment to pro bono work and serving the communities in which we work. All summer associates take on significant responsibility from day one in pro bono matters that match their areas of interests, be it transactional work, or litigation. Not only does pro bono work better our global communities, but it also allows summer associates to gain important training experience and hone their legal skills from the outset of their careers.
Throughout their careers, we encourage our lawyers to use their skills to make a positive impact in the lives of people around the world through pro bono work.
Our pro bono practice is global and multijurisdictional. This work supports our responsibility to help build a fair and equitable society, as well as our commitment to our people, culture, clients, and the wider legal sector.
