&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;“Work assignments were substantive and varied by the day. I managed to get involved in a small research project as part of a larger case and was able to see the trial and where my piece came into play.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“Many junior assignments were given to the summer associates. For those in the transactions/corporate practice group, much of the work assigned related to due diligence and corporate governance. Some training was provided, but mostly we were provided precedent to review as a guide and told to ask questions.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“I was trusted and encouraged to sit in on substantive client calls, and partners took the time before and after those interactions to explain what was happening and why. I also got real work and real research questions and drafted real documents that were later used.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“The approach to training summer associates was pretty hands-on. Because we were given real work, you&#39;d iterate the work product back-and-forth with a supervising attorney until you had a satisfactory end result, which is a pretty effective way to learn quickly.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;

&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;“The summer associate program has a beautifully executed social program that allows for ample interaction with firm attorneys. Our summer class had, and still does have, great camaraderie. We all got along very well right from the outset, and the firm even let us set up our own summer-associate-only boat cruise at the end.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“One weekly event in the evenings plus lunches with firm attorneys.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“Foley does a great job of providing summer associate events that are tailored to the unique experiences that each city offers. Events ranged from wine tastings to boat days to sporting events—there was truly something for everyone. Additionally, Foley flies all of its summer associates from across the country to a multiday retreat. This allows summers to connect with others in their class year.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“I immediately felt like I was ‘part of the firm’ from the beginning of the summer. The firm really did a good job balancing integration without putting too much (or any) pressure on performance.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;

Of course, when you&#39;re a summer, you aren&#39;t here long enough to be fully staffed on a case, and you receive more one-off assignments, but the assignments Foley gives are the same assignments you&#39;d receive as a first year.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“My experience as a summer associate translated completely into my experience as a first year associate—there were no curve balls or hidden agendas. One thing I wasn&#39;t expecting was how slow the start of working would be—this was alluded to when I was a summer associate, but I don&#39;t think I fully grasped how little there would be in terms of billable hours for the first few months of working full-time as a first-year associate.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“I was surprised to learn that I get most of my work from mid-level and senior associates and less from partners. I also was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I began email opposing counsel and the client.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;
