We take great pride in fostering a collaborative, non-hierarchical learning environment between associates and partners, and offer opportunities to engage with many practice areas across the firm before selecting an area of focus. Through our leading pro bono program, in-house training programs, on-the-job development opportunities, mentoring, and more, we give our associates the experience and resources needed to become great lawyers.

Our Commitment to Pro Bono
Pro bono work is built into our DNA. Early champions for hot-button issues like prisoners' rights, criminal defense, and LGBTQ equality, Jenner & Block continues to forge the path, year after year, in helping marginalized communities. Regularly ranked #1 in pro bono by The American Lawyer, our promise to serve is public and substantial—in January 2021, we announced a five-year commitment to provide $250 million in free legal assistance. Our Summer Associate Program
Summer Associates bond at baseball games, comedy shows, and city-specific events, but the real value of the summer program comes from the opportunity to see first-hand what makes our firm so special. As an organization filled with smart people who take their work—but not themselves—seriously, we welcome our Summer Associates with handpicked assignments that are substantive, interesting, and engaging. You will have the chance to explore our different practices—from cybersecurity and blockchain to voting rights, antitrust, government investigations, and more. You will play an integral role across the firm by drafting briefs, preparing for depositions or trials, and doing the legal research and analysis we need to guide our clients. Our many programs and resources help associates grow the skills needed to flourish in their career, whether it continues at Jenner, in-house, in government, or elsewhere. Our goal is to help you develop substantive legal skills, finely tuned legal acumen, and the experience and connections to build a meaningful career wherever your professional life takes you.
Our training programs evolve to meet your needs as you progress in your career. Expect high-level training from subject-matter experts, transparent competency benchmarks, and extensive growth-focused feedback as part of our annual review process.
As a junior associate, you'll hone skills in deposition, mediation, and trial settings and learn business development, law firm management, and team management through lectures and small-group sessions.
As you grow into a mid-level and senior associate, you'll begin to play a more prominent role in your practice team, helping to determine strategies and supervise other team members. Expect increased client contact and more opportunities to lead meetings, depositions, or cross-examinations. We also encourage you to pursue brand-building activities like publishing articles, giving speeches, and taking a leadership role in an external organization.
