About the Firm
Proskauer Rose handles incredibly diversified work across top-notch corporate, litigation, tax, private client services, entertainment, and labor and employment practices.
From Small Business to Big Business
Firm forefather William R. Rose opened up shop in downtown Manhattan in 1875 at the sprightly age of 21. Rose’s first clients were local retailers, and his skill soon caught the attention of New York’s burgeoning business class, who hired Rose’s firm to represent them in corporate and personal estate matters. The firm’s reputation (and headcount) continued to grow, and by 1907, name partner Benjamin Paskus—a tax specialist—joined the firm. The outfit founded a successful tax practice following the Sixteenth Amendment’s passage in 1913. Joseph Proskauer joined the firm in ...
Associate Reviews
- “People are very friendly, but there is no pressure to socialize outside of work. People have their own families and lives, and that's pretty respected.”
- “Awesome culture. The firm is full of kind people who care about doing good work first and foremost but also care about mentoring junior associates, building strong bonds among colleagues, and promoting well-rounded individuals. The firm takes great lengths to connect in the office and through affinity group events, trainings, and social gatherings.”
- “Proskauer's culture is by-and-large exceedingly (and refreshingly!) friendly and considerate. Including pleasantries in emails and ensuring associates receive feedback and praise for their efforts is valued here.”
- “Lawyers are very respectful and friendly toward one another and toward staff. Departments and groups have their own schedules for professional and social meetings, but there are also plenty of firmwide social initiatives. First years are assigned an associate mentor and given a budget for social activities, and senior attorneys remain interested in mentoring younger attorneys.”

Getting Hired Here
- “Our firm considers the obvious factors—law school, performance there, journal and extracurriculars, etc.—as a baseline but looks closely at personality, cultural fit, and long-term professional goals as well. Prior work experience and, especially, federal clerkships are also big plusses.”
- “I think the firm looks at the individual as a whole and really cares about the ability of the candidate to fit into the firm's culture.”
- “Pretty standard BigLaw hiring process out of law school (i.e., OCI process). Proskauer focuses on recruiting from certain high-ranked law schools but also opens their interview process to nontarget schools through other programs.”
- “The firm is looking for a well-balanced individual who is equally intelligent, responsible, and passionate, and who excels in a collaborative environment. Grades and prior experience do play roles, but the firm is mostly looking for students who will fit in with the firm's culture.”
