Snell & Wilmer opened its doors in 1938, when three Phoenix-area attorneys led by Frank Snell joined up with Mark Wilmer. Snell and his team found Wilmer by asking the Maricopa County Superior Court who the best trial lawyer in the state was—each identified Wilmer. In 1989, Snell & Wilmer began its expansion outside of Phoenix by opening a Tucson office and shortly thereafter merging with Tucson's largest firm at the time.
