Vault Verdict

Mansfield Advisors insiders have plenty of positive things to say about their firm. From the work-life balance and smart colleagues to significant training opportunities--particularly within the healthcare and life sciences sectors. This is a firm that does its best to do the best for its employees. Indeed, Mansfield prides itself on a culture of fairness, transparency, and early responsibility, offering a supportive environment that fosters both personal and professional growth.

If there are any drawbacks to life at the firm, it’s likely to be in the form of less generous compensation than at larger competitors (a typical tradeoff for a manageable working life in this industry). For those passionate about healthcare consulting and looking for a balanced ap...

Employee Reviews

  • “A firm which understands ‘work hard and play hard’.”

  • “Continuous learning with a great team.”

  • “Early exposure of interns to senior members and clients.”

  • “Great opportunities to learn from senior leadership and managers, as well as rapidly gain experience through early exposure to clients.”

  • “The interns and new graduates here all seem to be slightly surprised as to how positive their experience is. We teach upward management, which is crucial in consulting and working for very senior people, and have tried to exorcise top-down direction when people try to find someone more junior to do the ‘donkey work.’

This is not an investment bank, and people should not be trying to get promoted to get ‘away’ from the work. Partners are resources - incredibly useful ones - for everyone to use. I work tirelessly to remove the wrong kind of hierarchy and title-seeking, and create a true team where everyone’s different contribution is valued and fully utilised. I want everyone to have the kind of environment I would have excelled in, and where I would have had an easier, faster, happier professional life as a result. And I try to make everything explicit, so people know what behaviours to follow and which suit our culture.”

Getting Hired Here

  • “Applications for summer internships have a deadline at the end of January; for graduate positions the deadline is end of February. Applicants have to submit a CV and answer some fit questions on the website; if successful in initial screening, they have to take a psychometric test; if successful here, they will be invited to first round interviews (2-3 case interviews and CV/fit discussion with Associates and Engagement Managers); if successful, they proceed to second round interviews with Partners (CV/fit).

The ideal candidate has a strong academic record from a top university (Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial or equivalent); evidence of commercial interest; scientific/clinical background is useful but not required; articulate, a logical problem solver, and a team player.”

  • “Elite academic backgrounds from top 2 or 3 universities in UK.”

  • “Intelligent self-starters that like healthcare - the values of the firm are collaboration, curiosity, teamwork, and commerciality.”

  • “Our ideal candidate is someone who wants to work in a big three firm, or somewhere like Strategy&, but has a particular interest in healthcare perhaps, and wants to work somewhere where they will be supported to succeed. We don’t take a hire-and-fire approach to prune our way to success. We are just so transparent and direct and supportive that if people’s values don’t align, they eventually see it themselves and head off. I do worry that very recent graduates don’t realise how good they have it here. One has just spend the day working on a project with a big PE firm, fantastic exposure and commentary all through the day on how they are working and can do better, and they’ve just left in full view of the partner (me) at 17:30. That’s not entirely typical - there’s a period of high commitment before you make partner - but it’s not frowned on. We care about real outputs, outcomes and activities; not hours. But when it’s go-time, it’s go-time and we are super ready to blow the clients’ minds.

  • “The process is thorough and aims to capture individuals who are also applying to leading (MBB) firms.”
