Vault Verdict

Change, the saying goes, is hard—particularly when people’s livelihoods are at stake. Stax has been in a period of flux since its 2021 acquisition by private equity outfit Blue Point Capital Partners. While the firm is looking to scale—something that was already changing the culture—the difficult economic and deal conditions in 2023 definitely did not help employee morale, with industry-wide layoffs adding an additional degree of uncertainty to the day-to-day experiences of many employees.

However, the firm is an intriguing possibility for potential consultants. That private equity backing suggests that scale will still be a priority in the coming years, with opportunities to gain rapid exposure across a variety of industries.

Employee Reviews

  • “A challenging but rewarding work experience with many friendships forged along the way.”

  • “Direct opportunity to work with clients. Mid-sized and you have opportunities to take the lead and make things happen.”

  • “Prospective candidates should know that our firm offers excellent career development opportunities, a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and a competitive compensation package. However, they should be prepared for the demands of the job, working within the PE investment ecosystem, which can sometimes impact work-life balance.”

  • “Stax is an excellent place to begin or continue your consulting career and offers near-unmatched exposure to clients and work at a very early stage. The colleagues are all extremely bright, hardworking, and enjoyable to work with and create a fun company culture. The work-life balance is great when compared to other firms with comparable client bases, and compensation does not suffer in spite of this.
However, the overall Stax experience appears to vary depending on the office location. While the future overall firm outlook is bright, there are clear areas of growing pains as the company expands quickly, and culture/employee experience has clearly taken more of a back seat under the new owners.”

  • “We foster a culture of continuous learning, diverse project experiences, and strong mentorship, but the work-life balance can be challenging at times, but we aren't in a 9-5.”

Getting Hired Here

  • “As part of the interview process, I know we have made huge efforts to streamline the process and timeline for candidates.”

  • “I believe we have a pretty solid interview and callback process. The firm seeks to employ candidates that are thought leaders, ask questions, and have a data-driven mindset.”

  • “Process typically involves 2-3 behavioral interviews along with a case and a competency test (Excel and PowerPoint).”

  • “The interview process for entry-level staff is relatively non-rigorous, with an initial fit interview with HR, followed by callbacks for quantitative analysis, 2 additional fit interviews with consulting staff, and a case study. The ideal candidate is hardworking, able to learn quickly, understands general business dynamics, and is collegial.”

  • “Typically seeking previous consulting experience, ideally with PE consulting experience. Having industry expertise can make up for lack of PE consulting experience. We are efficient with recruiting process, takes a few weeks.”
