Overview
About the Company
The Arizona Public Service operates and partly owns the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, which is the U.S.’s single largest producer of energy. The energy from this power station provides energy for approximately 4 million people in the southwest United States, producing an average of 3.3 gigawatts annually to do so.
Nuclear energy is considered a clean source of energy, and the station puts out a mix of about 50% clean air energy on average. It’s also the only nuclear power plant in the country that’s not located on a body of water (water is typically used to cool nuclear reactors)—instead, the Palo Verde Generating Station uses wastewater from nearby towns to cool its reactors, further improving its environmental friendliness.
