One of the world’s leading suppliers of PCs, Dell Inc. was started in 1984 by Michael Dell in his dorm room at the University of Texas, Austin. Michael Dell eventually dropped out of college because, by the late-1980s, the company was making more than $70 million a year.

By the early 2000s, the company expanded its product line to include televisions, digital cameras, and a variety of computer-related products. In 2016, the company expanded further through its $60 billion acquisition of data storage specialist EMC (which then was renamed Dell EMC).
