Trivago is a website that allows users to compare hotel rates from a wide variety of sources, including short-term rental services. The company was founded in 2005 by four college friends in Düsseldorf, Germany. It’s still completely run from Düsseldorf, with 100% of its employees working from a single office in the city. In 2012, Expedia purchased a majority stake in the company, bringing Trivago under its umbrella. Trivago operates its website (and its dozens of localized versions), a mobile app, and a magazine about general travel topics.
