About the Company

dormakaba is a Swiss security company—if it locks, dormakaba probably makes it. From door hardware and electronic access systems to safe locks and entrance systems for office buildings and universities, dormakaba makes it all. It is the result of a 2015 merger between German company Dorma and Swiss company Kaba. The company is headquartered in Rümlang, Switzerland (a suburb of Zürich), and it’s led by Chairman Svein Richard Brandtzæg and CEO Till Reuter.

Intern Reviews

  • “While I worked on site every day, they were very flexible with work hours and accommodating workers with hybrid options to ensure it’s convenient to get the 40 hours a week. The culture was really nice, with multiple team-building activities in my time there, in addition to special weekly lunches where the interns got to learn about useful skills such as resume building and presentation.”

  • “Everyone here is very friendly and helpful. They are always willing to help me out. As for workload, they are pretty flexible with timing to come to work, as long as you hit your eight hours. Work/life balance is pretty good as well. They let me take time off to do other activities that I am a part of.”
  • “The culture is very welcoming—no conflicts or difficulties working alongside others. The emphasis is always on growth and teamwork, not individuals. I looked forward to going in everyday and really learned a lot from those around me.”
  • “The culture within the product development department at dormakaba is one that emphasizes collaboration, creative thinking, curiosity, and transparency. Employees are encouraged to share valuable information with each other to ensure the productivity of the team is always at its best. Each employee is valued based on their positive contribution to the team dynamic, not based on where they got their education, whether they hold the most product knowledge, nor any superficial quality such as gender, race, religion, or otherwise. A good work/life balance was also ingrained into the culture, with any employee able to work from home if something comes up and no employees working unreasonable hours. The department also held occasional (paid) events during the workday, which were always fun, inclusive, and helped foster a friendly environment. I was required to work 40 hours weekly and never felt pressured to take overtime.”

Getting Hired Here

  • “The interview was a little nerve-racking, as there were four different interviewers, and the interview was online. Overall, the questions were pretty normal for an interview, and everyone seemed genuinely interested in my background.”

  • “Went through a total of three interviews. The first one was with the recruiter, and I felt the interview went well. Questions were clear and the interview ran very smoothly. Next interview was with the manager. Some questions were repetitive from the first interview, but overall, it also ran smoothly. The third interview/conversation was with one of the directors of the rising talent program and the conversation went great. It did not feel too much like an interview, but more so just getting to know more about the program itself. Overall, interviews were not hard, and each person was really easy to talk to.”
  • “The interviewers were kind, so that made me less nervous and more comfortable. My interview wasn’t difficult, mainly ‘getting to know you’ questions.”
  • “Two interviews were required. A basic 10 -to 15-minute telephone interview with an HR rep, followed by a 30-minute interview with the hiring manager. Overall, a very smooth process.”
