High School

Some app service jobs are open to high school students. Recommended classes for all app services workers include business, mathematics, computer science, English, and speech. Drivers education classes are also important if you aim to work in rideshare or other services. If you plan to work as a handyman (or woman) or in other trades or technical positions, take shop classes to learn how to use blueprints and tools and build things. If you plan to launch your own app services business, classes in advertising, marketing, and entrepreneurism will be especially useful. Learning a foreign language—such as Spanish—will increase your ability to communicate with customers and may improve your chances of getting hired.

Postsecondary Education

You do not need a college degree to work as an app services professional, but some workers have or are pursuing degrees and view employment in app services as a temporary role till they complete their college education or other training that prepares them for a different career.

Certification

No educational certificates are available in app services, but earning a certificate in business management, a technical field, or other areas related to your specialty will increase your knowledge and perhaps make you a more attractive job candidate.

Other Education or Training

Colleges and universities offer a variety of business, entrepreneurism, marketing, and other classes that will be useful to app services workers. Handymen can take online and in-person courses that teach them new skills (basic electrical wiring, plumbing, masonry, etc.) that will allow them grow their clientele.

Certification or Licensing

The average person who drives for a rideshare company or another app service firm will need a drivers license but does not need a commercial driver’s license, although some states have additional licensing requirements. In some municipalities, app services workers may need a business license, but this varies greatly by geographic location.

For some positions, rideshare and delivery drivers need one to three years of driving experience. A person who provides handyman services will be expected to have a good understanding of home repair services and related skills.

App services workers need to be comfortable using apps to review and accept potential work assignments, fulfill orders, and interact with clients and employers. They must be extremely organized, top-notch time managers, have a detail-oriented personality, be good multitaskers, and be able to work effectively while under stress.
