Evercore is a prestigious global independent investment banking advisory firm that’s looking for well-rounded, highly intelligent, hardworking, personable, and self-disciplined candidates with strong technical skills and financial knowledge. For students, the firm runs a very rewarding internship program, where interns receive access to senior bankers, a strong mentorship program, many networking opportunities, and significant hands-on live deal experience (which can lead to long hours). For its full-time junior bankers, Evercore offers extensive growth opportunities, including early responsibility on live transactions (deal flow is very strong), a structured and very helpful formal training program, valuable mentoring, and an apprenticeship culture that focuses on development and...

Employee Reviews

  • “My group is very busy and we typically have each junior staffed on multiple live deals. This means that the hours you are putting in are adding meaningfully to your career development. It also means work/life balance is tough given the amount of work there is to do. There is definitely a trade off, but given the level of experience, the hours are worth it. During deals, even as a junior banker, I have very close access to upper management of our clients and our senior bankers. I appreciate the level of trust that Evercore gives us in communicating and leading some client interactions.”
  • “Best aspect is that quality of life is a major focus of our group. Weekend hours are audited, and senior members of teams are held accountable if it seems that junior teams have been working unnecessarily (which very rarely happens). We also respect protected Saturdays (which is enforced, subject to explicit client needs). Individuals are encouraged to take vacation, and teams provide robust coverage so that they are uninterrupted. Our group is very busy, but that has nothing to do with the culture or institution of our group itself; it’s just a testament to the group’s ability to generate high quality work.”
  • “We work a lot of hours but nothing I would consider extreme relative to other banks in the industry. The best aspects are vacation is easy to take, you’re allowed to work from home in the evenings and Fridays, and teams are very polite and congenial. As long as work gets done, people are not tracking your activity, and there is not much of a ‘face time’ culture. Seniors try to ensure that juniors have a good personal life outside of work and put real effort in on this front.”
  • “Given the high standards throughout the firm and complex nature of the projects we work on, everyone spends a considerable time working. This can make it harder to find a work/life balance, as greater hours are required to produce the work needed. However, the work that we perform is interesting and impactful. There’s an emphasis on performing meaningful/deal-oriented work rather than marketing/internal work. “

Getting Hired Here

  • “We are looking for people with a history of demonstrating leadership skills (in past jobs, extracurriculars, school, etc.) and who also can pass rigorous technical assessments. This way we know the candidate will be a good, friendly team member and be able to interact with clients while also having the technical skills to do heavy modeling work from the get-go.”
  • “Evercore has some of the most complex and comprehensive technical interview questions on Wall Street. There is an emphasis on finding not only outstanding candidates from a technical perspective but also those who are well spoken and engaging. The ideal candidate has a strong personality, is highly intelligent, and has the ability to operate independently and produce clean and thoughtful work.”
  • “The type of candidate we are looking has a strong technical foundation and an ability to think through concepts, takes ownership and over-delivers on teams and to firm culture, exhibits broad leadership qualities in past roles or activities, has outstanding written and oral communication skills, has excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to articulate ideas, has a notable work ethic and self-discipline, has a proven ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects, is coachable and can take feedback, and is enthusiastic, outgoing, and achievement-oriented.”
  • “The interview process is a first-round technical and behavioral interview followed by a technical and behavioral Super Day maybe a week or two later. Candidates who receive offers usually are contacted within 24 to 48 hours. Ideal candidate is someone who is pretty brainy and has high motivation to succeed.”
